SEBI New MFD Incentive Guidelines 2026: 1% Bonus on B-30 and Women Investors
New Incentives for MFDs: A Rewarding Move for Financial Inclusion
AMFI has just released the operational guidelines for the Additional Incentive Scheme mandated by SEBI. Starting March 2, 2026, Mutual Fund Distributors (MFDs) can earn a significant bonus for bringing new participants into the market—specifically targeting women and those living Beyond the Top 30 (B-30) cities.
1. What is the Incentive?
This is an additional 1% commission on the first year's investment, over and above your regular trail.
Lump Sum: 1% of the application (Max ₹2,000).
SIP: 1% of the total investment made in the first year (Max ₹2,000).
The Catch: The investor must remain invested for at least one year. The payment hits your account in the commission cycle after that one-year anniversary.
2. Who is an "Eligible Investor"?
To claim this, the investor must be a New PAN (never invested in the MF industry before).
Women Investors: Any city in India (T-30 or B-30).
Male Investors: Must be from a B-30 city (based on KYC pin code).
Exclusions: NRIs, minors, and non-individual PANs (HUFs, Companies) are not eligible.
3. Which Schemes Qualify?
Most schemes are eligible, but SEBI has excluded "Low Duration" products to ensure the incentive goes toward long-term wealth creation.
Excluded: ETFs, Overnight, Liquid, Ultra Short, and Low Duration funds.
Included: Equity, Hybrid, and Long-Term Debt funds.
4. Important Operational Rules for MFDs
The RTA (CAMS/KFintech) will be the "Judge" using industry-level PAN data. Here is how they will decide:
The "First" Rule: The incentive is only for the very first transaction. If a client invests ₹10k in AMC 'A' and ₹50k in AMC 'B' on the same day, the higher amount (AMC 'B') gets the incentive.
SIP vs. Lumpsum: If a client does both on Day 1, the Lumpsum takes priority for the calculation.
No Dual Benefits: If a transaction qualifies for both the "Women Incentive" and the "Choti SIP" incentive, the RTA will automatically pay you whichever is higher.
Why This is a "Nation Building" Opportunity
As India aims for a $7 trillion economy, the goal is to move beyond the metros. For MFDs, this isn't just about the extra ₹2,000; it's about building a loyal client base in untapped markets. Women control an increasing share of household savings, and B-30 cities are the next frontier for "Millionaire India."
Conclusion
The new incentive structure rewards MFDs who do the hard work of "last-mile" education. By focusing on women and B-30 residents, you are not just growing your AUM—you are participating in India’s story of financial empowerment.
Are you ready for March 2nd? Which segment are you going to target first—the untapped B-30 markets or the growing demographic of women investors? Let’s share strategies in the comments!
