IT crash 📉📉📉
The Nifty IT index took a massive 6% hit today, wiping out nearly ₹1.75 Lakh Crore in market value. This crash was triggered by what traders are calling the "SaaSpocalypse"—a broad sell-off sparked by Anthropic’s latest release of 11 AI automation plugins for its Claude Cowork agent.
The "Personal View"
As an AMFI Registered Distributor and Software Developer, I see this as a fundamental shift in how the market values the "Information Protocol." For years, Indian IT giants like Infosys, Wipro, and TCS have thrived on "Process Logic"—taking a business process and making it more efficient through human labor and software.
The Bug: Anthropic’s new tools (especially in the legal, sales, and data analysis layers) aren't just "chatting"; they are executing. When an AI can independently handle contract reviews, NDA triage, and data analysis, it bypasses the middleman. This directly threatens the billable hours model of traditional IT and professional services firms.
Key Market Impacts (Feb 4, 2026)
Global Rout: The "Anthropic Effect" wiped out $300 Billion from global software and data stocks overnight. Thomson Reuters plummeted 18%, while Gartner crashed 21%.
Indian ADR Impact: Infosys and Wipro ADRs fell nearly 6% in the US, leading the local sell-off today.
Valuation Compression: Investors are no longer looking at IT as a "Growth" sector but as one facing significant Disruption Risk. The Nifty IT index market cap dropped from ₹31.75 Lakh Cr to ₹30 Lakh Cr in a single session.
